The topic for today's BFF was originally suggested by David last week and seconded by you all in the comments section of yesterday's post, and I'm all about giving the people what they want, so there you have it. Song lyrics! Specifically, ones you can't get out of your head.
Mine come from a tender little film called The Waitress, in which a pregnant Keri Russell serves one-of-a-kind pie creations in a diner down south and dreams of an existence far away from her small-town upbringing and pighead ass wipe of a husband. Luke and I rented this when I was just two weeks postpartum, and I was captivated the whole time, both by Keri Russell's raw portrayal of Jenna and her beautiful head of hair. Seriously. It's gorgeous.
Anyway, halfway through, while gettin' down and dirty with her ob/gyn in the kitchen (they're sleeping together; did I not mention that?), she sings a song she learned from her mother as a little girl, "The Pie Song," and I've been singing it to Kara ever since. Even Luke's taken a liking, and if you think there's anything sweeter than listening to your husband lull your daughter to sleep with this, you'd be DEAD WRONG. He only remembers the first couple of lines, but still, so sweet.
It's the chorus I keep coming back to:
Baby, don't you cry
Gonna make a pie
Gonna make a pie with a heart in the middle
Baby, don't be blue
Gonna make for you
Gonna make a pie with a heart in the middleGonna be a pie from Heaven above
Gonna be filled with strawberry love
Baby, don't you cry
Gonna make a pie
And hold you forever in the middle of my heart
Take a listen and see if you aren't on iTunes by the end of the day.
What've you been stuck on lately?
The song from the new Mac commercial (the one where they put the laptop into the envelope)!
It's Yael Naim and the song is "New Soul". I swear, I could just put that thing on repeat all day long.

I cannot get the silly Fountains of Wayne song "Someone to Love" out of my head. I woke up with it going through my brain this morning...
"When it's late, and it's hot
And an hour in the shower is the best that you've got
Don't give out, don't give up
One of these nights you might find someone to love
Seth Shapiro is trying in vain
To hail a taxi in the morning in the pouring rain
Beth McKenzie sees one just up ahead
She cuts in front of him and leaves him"
ARGH! Make it stop!

Wait, are we talking about songs you WANT to get out of your head but can't? Or songs you could listen to all day and still not be sick of? Or songs that just have beautiful lyrics?
The song I can't get out of my head once I hear it is one I'm singing in a concert for St. Patrick's Day (as part of a choir lest you get overly impressed), and it goes:
If you're I-RISH
Come into the paaaaar-LOR
There's a welcome there for you!
If your name is
Timothy or PAT
As long as you come from Ireland
There's a welcome on the MAT!
At one point we start singing "Fa la la laaaaa! La LA la laaaaayy looooo laaa..."
Trust me, you should be glad you do not know the tune because this is one song you cannot get rid of.
As for lovely lyrics, may I suggest "Time in a bottle" by Jim Croce?
If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is save every day till eternity comes
So again I could spend them with you
There never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've been around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go
Through time with

The soundtrack to the movie Once. I saw the movie like a month ago and I cannot stop listening to the soundtrack. It's the best soundtrack ever. And the movie rules as well.
RENT IT NOW!

OK - I suggested this topic yesterday because I ALWAYS have songs in my head. I LOVE songs. And I love song lyrics. I know a lot of song lyrics. In fact, I've won several contests involving remembering the lyrics to songs. Yeah - this girl's a lyrics freak.
There are waaaaayyyy too many for me to list the "good ones" or the "ones I sing all the time" so I'll just do the one that is currently in my head: Let You Go by Paramore. (Don't know them that well? CHECK THEM OUT!)
Maybe if my heart stops beating
It won't hurt this much
And never will I have to
Answer again to anyone
Chorus:
I'll never let you go
But I can't find the words to tell you
I don't want to be alone
But now I feel like I don't know you
Love Paramore. And their old CD is as good (if not better) than the newest. Listen to them. I promise you'll love.
I may be back later with more... :-)

For years, like since I was around three, the theme song to the Banana Splits Show randomly pops in my head and stays there for days:
Tra-la-la la-la-la-la, Tra-la-la la-la-la-la
Tra-la-la la-la-la-la, Tra-la-la la-la-la-la
One banana, two bananas, three bananas, four
Four bananas make a bunch and so do many more
Over hills and highway the banana buggies go
Coming on to bring you the Banana Splits Show
Makin' up a mess of fun
Makin' up a mess of fun
Lots of fun for everyone
Tra-la-la la-la-la-la, Tra-la-la la-la-la-la
Tra-la-la la-la-la-la, Tra-la-la la-la-la-la

Ani Difranco- Manhole
'course you're the kind of guy who doesnt lie he just doctors everything
choses some unassuming finger
and quietly moves his wedding ring
who rewrites his autobiography
for any pretty girl who'll sing
But You can fool the queen, baby
Cause I married the king.
and maybe it was I who betrayed his majesty
with no opposite reality
like a puddle with no reflection
of the sky or the trees
but after my dreaded beheading
i tied that sucker back on with a string
and I guess im pretty different now, considering

Song that I can't get out of my head...
"Yellow Submarine" by The Beatles
My mom will call me at random times and sing it just because she knows it gets stuck in my head for HOURS at a time...

Maureen: I think "earworm" is the term you are looking for regarding the evil song that won't get out of your head; that is, until you sing or hum it loud enough for someone else to be infected, at which point it stops annoying you and starts annoying the other person.
I am also a loser because I don't currently have a song I love enough to be obsessed with. The last one was by Death Cab for Cutie - "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" - but I've been over it for months and haven't found another.

Well since I read your last post before this one I now have Blinded by the Light stuck in my head!!
Thanks Liz and Tasterspoon!

Take me out to the baaaaallgaaaaame,
Take me out to the croooowwwwd,
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks
Iiii don't care if I ever get back
I just did a crossword puzzle with a clue about that song. Can't make it go away...
When I say "just" you are to read "5 hours ago". Yeah. Won't. Go. Away.

Wait... she sings that WHILE they're doin' it? Oh HELL no. That's just not right. You can make a lot of noises while doin' it, but I can tell you it would totally break my concentration or whatever if my partner BURST INTO SONG halfway through. Yikes.
I have the Juno soundtrack stuck in my head, specifically the first song (If I was a flower growing wild and free, all I'd want is you to be my sweet honeybee). The whole soundtrack is way cute and highly recommended, as is the movie itself (if you haven't seen it yet).

I can NEVER get Sister Christian by Night Ranger out of my head! If I hear it, it's with me for at least 3 days. In fact, I've got a friend who lives far away with the same problem and we call each other every time we hear Sister Christian.
"MOTORIN'! What's your price for flight?"
Currently, my husband and I have a song from a commercial stuck in our heads. You know that Geico commercial where the "real person" is being backed up by the Pips? That's the one.
"Rental car smells like sunshiiiiiine.
Take the train to happy town. Woo woo!"
I adore song lyrics. Here's a classic from Bon Jovi (Bed of Roses)
"With an iron-clad fist, I wake up and french kiss the morning."
(How exactly does one french kiss the morning, pray tell?)

Dawn: They weren't doin' it; they were actually baking a pie when Keri Russell teaches him the song. The YouTube version I linked to plays during the ending credits, and the "video" just highlights all the sexay doin'-it moments. Sorry I misled you!

I will have to come back and post about a song, but just wanted to say I absolutely loved "Waitress." Thanks for the link to that video.

OK, I've thought about a song that I keep listening to a lot lately and have in my head...
Love Song by Sara Bareilles.
I especially love the story behind the song, which she wrote...The people at the record company were insisting that she write a love song, which I guess is really not her style. So this is the song she came back with - and look at the hit it's become!
I’m not gonna write you a love song
Cause you ask for it
Cause you need one
You see, I’m not gonna write you a love song
Cause you tell me it’s make or breakin’ this
If you’re on your way
I’m not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leavin’
I’m gonna need a better reason
To write you a love song
Today
Today..

I love "The Pie Song." It's one of those songs you don't mind having stuck in your head!
I usually spend my morning showers with some song from my pre-k class stuck in my head. Usually some classic from the Wiggles, like "Hot Potato."
Hot potato, Hot potato
Hot potato, hot potato
Hot potato, hot potato
Potato
Potato
Potato
Those guys have MAD songwriting skills.

Ok so the whole way through reading the comments I was thinking about what lyrics I was going to post here!! And since the song I have stuck in my head is currently the pie song, I get to be creative. Since reading Jen L's Bon Jovi Bed of Roses comment I have to add this little gem and by far my favorite part to this song:
The hotel bar hangover whiskeys gone dry
The barkeepers wigs crooked
And shes giving me the eye
I might have said yeah
But I laughed so hard I think I died
Hahahaha

I usually just have random songs from my elementary school choir days in my head. Like today it was "The Ink is black, the ink is white, da da da da da da da --ite; the child is black the child is white, da da da da da da da --ite." Never even bothered to find out the rest of the lyrics but it's often in my head for some reason. THe "da da's" are where I don't know the words and that's how I hear it in my head! Call me crazy. Megan & I thank you for the pie song - we danced around to it on youtube for about 20 minutes this afternoon!
